Restriction to send email via Office 365
« on: May 12, 2014, 05:34:37 AM »
Hi,

I'm trying to send an email via my Office 365 account using the Demo app. The following two lines come up in the log:

80 > AUTH LOGIN
80 < 504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type

Does this mean that Office 365 does not support AUTH LOGIN?
Thys

That would be my guess, yes. the authUser and Password fields should then be set to blank when making the SMTP (ie _send_) connection.

Hi Bruce.

Tried but no success. I get "Error 530, 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated, State = 74". The NT docs do say that only AUTH LOGIN is supported, so for now I need to assume that NT email wont send via Office 365.

Thanks
Thys

Bruce,

It is SSL and TLS only. In the demo there are two check boxes, one for for secure emails and one for TLS. Both need to be switched on for sending via Office 365 to work.

Thanks

cool, thanks Thys. Most "large" servers (eg Google, Yahoo etc) are SSL only these days.
