NT Web app upgrade to 6.40
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:28:36 PM »
Bruce,

I have an older app I based off of your frame example.  I can't remember what version of NT I originally used so I have attached an image of my app.  I would like to keep the frames setup but now the TaskPanel menu does not appear in the left frame.  All I see is a large logout button, which I need to fix as well.  I have looked for clues in the NetTalk Upgrade and Tasks docs but have not found a solution.
I would be willing to convert to a non-frame app later as long as I can keep all the existing procedures I have created. I have tried some of the suggestions related to header/footer changes but did not remove the frameset yet.  I want to get it working with frames before moving away just yet.

Can you suggest a fix?

Thanks,

Jeff King

Hi Jeff,

I recently moved a frame app from NT5 to NT6 without frames.

I found the easiest way was to wizard a new small app. In my case I moved to a double drop menu. I then imported most of the procedures from my original app. I then just needed to add the header + footer tags and fix any target frames. From memory it was pretty painless.

Kevin,

I do have a new smaller app already created with the wizard.  I'll take your advice and see if I can import the important procedures from the older app.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I strongly encourage the move away from frames, so moving to a non-frames approach is recommended.
Make sure you read the doc for doing this.
http://www.capesoft.com/docs/NetTalk6/NetWebTasks.htm#ConvertFrames

That said, the reason the frame on the left looked strange was because the frame jumped into mobile mode. It did this likely because of the size of the frame. If you have a frames-based site it's a good idea to force the site into Desktop mode - you don't want the site to change on a mobile device if it has frames.

To force it into desktop mode, go to the WebHandler settings, General Tab, "Set Site Mode to".

Cheers
Bruce

Bruce,

Thanks!  That was it.  I have another non-frame version of the app in the works so Im taking your advice and moving away from frames.
