Title: Date Lookup Issue, PR29
Post by: spot1701 on January 26, 2009, 04:31:05 AM
If the date field is forced, and you press the lookup button, you get the "date required" error after you have selected the date.

In example 1. Make the date field "required'. Insert a new record, select the date lookup, pick a date. You will see the "date required" error and the date field will not be populated.

Hi,

I have the same problem.

Are you using the option "AUTO LOOKUP ON INSERT" in this form?

In my case I have seen that if I have "AUTO LOOKUP ON INSERT" ticked then the date field does not work.
Once I have un-ticked the "AUTO LOOKUP ON INSERT" my date field and date lookup works again.

Regards

Actually this only seems to be a firefox issue. And only if firefox is in "single window mode", i.e. the date lookup opens in a new tab, rather than a new window.

Hi Bryan,

Yes, your problem is very different to Johan's.
I didn't manage to duplicate yesterday, but I'll try again today with the updated info.

If it's a browser setting though there may not be much I can do - we'll have to see...

cheers
Bruce

If you use the "Switch Window Mode" firefox extension, this will force firefox to use tabs instead of new windows. This will show the problem.

Hi Bryan,

There's no real solution to this I'm afraid, at least not in the immediate term.
The mechanism that the form uses to "communicate" (and I use that word loosely) with the lookup simple won't work in the "open in another tab" situation.

There are a number of longer-term solutions which I'll need to consider. The one option is to have a "page lookup" similar to the way a lookup currently works. Another is to use a completely different lookup script (which is the most likely course of action.)

In the meantime the user will need to enter the date in the field itself.

Cheers
Bruce
