I need more context...
Timers are bad in all modes - and I would caution against their use in mobile mode.
I would expect timers in desktop and mobile to behave mostly the same though.

I use a timer to refresh a maequee in the header and another to refresh a browse.
It is needed because I am showing stock prices.
Both works well in desktop mode but does not work in mobile mode, tested in IE browser...
