Title: Accounting Package
Post by: olu on October 29, 2012, 05:35:28 AM
Just been asked to create an online accounting package with book-keeping,cashflow and payroll. And i was looking at using nettalk. Has anyone had experience of doing this with nettalk or not a viable medium to do it with .

Hi Olu,

Nettalk is absolutely a viable tool to make an online accounting package with.

Of course, to make a good one would be an incredibly painful journey - as with any other development tool.

Yes it can be done and NT is a great tool for the job. I ported my windows accounting app to the web. A few things I needed to re-think how to do on the web. I was able to re-use all my reports and excel dumps so the port was mainly re-doing the user interface so much faster than starting from scratch. The con was that it was a lot more clunky and slower than my windows version running on Citrix so users did not want to switch. I've been concentrating on a couple of smaller web apps so it's been on the back burner for a while now. There are a number of existing "cloud" based accounting systems already available and the number seems to be rising rapidly so it would be worth checking these out before you start.

I'm not sure I agree with Stu's comments - It's no more painful than doing it in windows and I found a lot of stuff easier and more elegant in NT.

Cheers,

Kev

Oh!

Please don't misunderstand me.

I meant .. Making an Accounting package FULL STOP is a painful process :) Regardless of whatever tool you are doing.

At least, in my minor experience with that sort of thing, it's been painful. Desktop or web.
