Title: OT::Access speeds from different countries
Post by: John Fligg on March 13, 2012, 02:51:30 AM
I am trying to work out something and hope someone has an opinion <g>

I have 2 markets basically, let us say US and UK. The US market is very responsive but the UK is not so responsive.

I have 2 Rackspace servers one in the US and one in the UK. I am wondering if the UK server can be justified.

If I were to put all the UK market onto the one server would the response times for a UK client accessing a US server be noticeably slower than a UK client accessing a UK server? Clearly the US server is the better option as that is where the general market is plus I have markets worldwide which are closer to the US.

I know there are issues of redundancy etc. to be taken into acount but just wondered what the answer would be in terms of access times alone.

Thanks.

John

run a www.speedtest.net on each of the servers. You can nominate where in the globe to ping.
