The Rest - Ask For Help / Is it ok to ask about nettalk 8.71 here? :-)

I have been out of Clarion for 8 years or so. Just back trying to use nettalk to put a personal program on the web for my own remote use. Latest version of NT that I have is 8.71 (its old and so am I <g>).

I am getting a clean compile and the server starts but i get an exception when I hit it with the browser. Thanks!

Web Server - Ask For Help / IPv6 transition and Nettalk

Since at least 1990, we have been using Website Webserver to host our Clarion cgi apps.  About 12 years ago Deerfield, the owner of Website, killed it off. We have kept using it as it has worked well over the years.

With the transition to IPv6, however, Website will probably finally have to go.  I am thinking about writing a Nettalk server to handle both win-cgi and std-cgi for our Clarion apps using NT and OddJob.

My question is, what is involved for NT in the IPv6 transition?
Is it going to be a big deal for NT?
Any timetable? I feel some of our international customers are going to be forced to IPv6 before we realize it.

I would like to go ahead and develop the NT server now and get it into production before the IPv6 transition, relying on NT to be ready when the transition goes into full swing.

Any thoughts?

Web Server - Ask For Help / Record not found on form when.....

I am converting a nt5 app to nt6.  All is working ok except for two problems.

The browses used radio buttons as the selection method for the form. 

On every form, I get record not found(5).  If I change the selection method to highlight, the forms work fine.

The login button works fine in IE, Safari, and Opera but in Chrome nothing happens.  It never even goes to the validation routine.

Any thoughts?

Web Server - Ask For Help / I've got some 'splaining to do, Lucy

I am working on a vertical market app that uses Nettalk to remotely access data. Pretty much mom and pop operations. They can use the numeric ip address or get a domain name. Either will work fine.

My question is... what is the best way to explain the nettalk side, how to forward port 88 on their router, setting up an internal static ip on the nettalk pc, getting a domain name, etc.

I have basically just written up what needs to be done and why, and recommend if they are not comfortable with doing it, to call their computer person/company or the geek squad.  I also include a link to www.portforward.com for additional information.

Does anyone do more than this, with a complete 'how too'?  I think I want to shy away from explicit instructions to avoid liability if they screw it up, but where is that line? <g>

Thanks for any ideas you guys have on the subject.

Web Server - Ask For Help / All my troubles with NT6

Hi Bruce,

I finally got some time to spend with NT6.  I like it but am having some problems (6.06).

Header and footer on an existing app compiled in NT6 are a problem. See links.. www.skipwill.com/images/nt5header.png is the NT5 header and www.skipwill.com/images/nt6header.png is the NT6 header.  Same source for both and respective web folders for each. Haven't been successful so far in tracking it down.  Any thoughts? I really like the nt5 header and would like to keep it.  Pretty much the same problem with the footer as well in nt6.


The NT6 wizard works great...but...when it finishes, c8 gpfs.  I restart c8 and 'recover' and all is there.  This happens whether i am wizzing a app or just a procedure. C8 gpfs each time on the wizard template.

The wizard apps look nice on the desktop and on an iPad 2 and all of the problems below are ok on these.

However mobile has problems.

1. No login button on the login form. On my android phone, pressing GO on the keyboard seems to log it in.  Pressing GO on an iPhone keyboard does nothing. I cant login with an iPhone due to lack of a login button.

2. Once logged in on the android, I get a menu for Home, Browse, Login (shouldn't it be Logout?..it is on the desktop). I press Browse and am taken to the Browse menu items...Client and Property (the two dct files that I chose to wizard). Pressing either the Client or Property menu item does nothing at all.  I cannot get any further using mobile.

What info can I provide to help with the above problems, or is it just me?

Web Server - Ask For Help / Web folder to Blob

It was mentioned in the webinar that the web folder can be put in a blob and served from there. I like this a lot better than distributing the web folder to folks who might want to dink with it.

I have looked at example 40, but my question is...is there a quick and easier way to get the web folder into a blob without having to go to each subfolder and subsubfolder and select the files for input into addblob?

I guess I am looking for something to recurse the web folder.

Web Server - Ask For Help / Only IE returns to login page instead of going back to browse

All other browsers work fine and go back to the proper page when the form close button is pressed.  IE however goes back to the login page instead..but just on this one form.  Some other forms work ok and return properly.

Any ideas on what may be going on with IE?  I have fiddled with some of the security settings, etc, but no joy. ... using 8.8658 and nt 5.32

Web Server - Ask For Help / Nettalk just quits working

I have a nettalk app that I recently converted from nt4 c6.3 to c7.3 nt5.17.  Its been running for a number of years with no major changes except for the conversion and the addition of a couple of more inquiry only screens.

Since the conversion, the app seems to just stop responding after a couple of hours or so.  They have to bring it down and back up, then it is ok for a while. Its mainly an inquiry app and not heavily used but they are not too happy about having to keep restarting it. 

Any ideas where I might look for the problem?

Web Server - Ask For Help / Menu on left needs to be wider

I have picked up Nettalk again after a long absence.  Presently creating an a web server app with standard browse/ forms, etc with menus on the left, using 'Task Panel'.

All is working fine except the menu frame is a bit too small (horizontal) and I get a scroll bar at the bottom of the menu.  Is there a way to increase the size of the menu frame?  If there is, I sure cant find it<g>!

What is the latest version of NetTalk available for Clarion 5.5? 

Unfortunately, I may have to go in and rip out the wininet stuff in a 5.5 app and replace it with nettalk client.

Web Server - Ask For Help / Automatically bring up first menu item

Working on a web server program...

After the login page, the frame page is displayed with several menu items in the frame.  Is there a way to automatically put up an initial page as if the user punched the first menu item?

Been searching for it but havent found it yet<g>...
