Title: Setting Up Server at Amazon
Post by: Jim A on March 11, 2015, 06:40:15 AM
Hi All: I'm interested in setting up a server with Amazon.  Before I wander too far down that path, I'm wondering if there is a simplified guide that charts the way.  I'm also curious to know what to expect with performance and cost -- just a small shop with minimal bandwidth usage (just looking for an rough idea).

Are there Nettalk resources (webinar, docs, etc.) that address this?

Thank you,

Jim

Hi Jim,

No NetTalk resources because there's a lot of Amazon resources - and once you have that up the nettalk instructions become;

a) copy program over
b) add it to exception list in Windows Firewall
c) run the exe.

you'll likely also set a DNS value to point to that IP address.

Cost wise it depends on a bunch of things - but is basically free for a small instance for a year if you haven't used Amazon for this before. I'm paying about $10-$15 per month.

You can basically run your nettalk app on the smallest instance they support - but you can scale up depending on what your program needs.

I pretty much just followed their site, with the odd google search when I got stuck. Pretty easy.

Cheers
Bruce
