Web Server - Ask For Help / Re: App won't run on remote web server
« on: April 01, 2008, 03:29:32 AM »
Bruce,

Following your directions:
1. windows firewall is not running on server
2. Changed the port number to be certain and closed other app.
3. error messages off
4. turned off selfservice and recompiled
5. tried browser on server and doesn't work that way either

still runs fine locally.
deleted login files on server temporarily just in case it was an issue with data (tps)

Other app on server running exe compiled with 4.28 works fine on same server at different port.

Suggestions?

Thank you,

Gregg

Using Nettalk 4.30, selfservice,winevent...

App runs perfectly on local machine, upgraded working (4.28) app to 4.30 on server and I can't get the loginpage to come up. error is HTTP 400 Bad request.. . IOW can't find the file.

Service panel on server shows it tries to start but doesn't get to the second line which references all.css etc.
I've spent hours loading and reloading and trying different things,

Where would you expect the problem to be?
ANother app on same server is working fine, (4.28) . I've missed something I know.

Thanks,

**** FIXED ****

was a rust problem ;D

When I upgraded to 4.3 I forgot to copy the latest scripts folder to my working directory.
Copied the scripts folder and the styles folder and it works just fine.

Gregg

shipping dropdown works in change mode, not on insert.

Web Server - Ask For Help / drop down not filtering properly

Nettalk 4.30

order entry form - client chooses dealer from file loaded drop down, next field is another drop down to choose the shipping destination that dealer. shipping dropdown is not working.

it is working on another pc same app using 4.28. The only difference is the new 4.3 version , the browse is a field in a web form.
Are things done a bit different in 4.3 . exactly where would I set a sessionvalue to tie the shipping id to the dealer id for filtering purposes?

Thanks,

Bruce,

Found a solution that works fine. I embedded the html in the embed of the ResultofSendEmail procedure on the XHTML tab and it looks fine.

for anyone else following along,  included in this embeded html is a link back to the Netwebform that holds the browse, NOT to the browse itself. Right or wrong this is how the refreshing of the record to the proper ID worked,

Thanks,

Gregg

Bruce,

Managed to get this working. Thank you. One remaining issue is a page is not showing up.

Emailformcontrol procedure has URL on Save set to 'ResultOfSendEmail' . It works but if I change it to 'ResultofSendEmail.html' and create the html page as the other static pages are set up it calls the static page but the embeded Net:what ever stuff doesn't show up.
Note that the 'ResultofSendEmail' procedure is a NetWebPage. That's the only thing that appears to be different.
Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Gregg

Bruce, Stu,

Thanks guys. I am finally making progress I think. More testing to do .
Been away from the Nettalk project for several months. Got a bit of rust to deal with.

whom ever said ignorance is bliss was a real idiot!

Thanks again,

Stu,

I'm the one that's a bit slow. I probably didn't explain very well.

The Browse is the orders. The objective is as soon as the order is entered, the user highlights the record in the browse and presses a button on the record's row and an email gets sent to the office notifying us that there is a new order, the order number and who it's from.
As per Bruce's suggestion on another thread, I added a Netwebform, and added the orders browse as the only field on the form. On the Client-side tab I checked "send new value to server" . The result is that the order ID is filled in when the emailformcontrol is opened. I need to fill the other fields from the order record, client email and text .

Tried everything I can think of , however I really haven't grasped this web stuff yet.

Appreciate any suggestions,

Gregg

Using 4.30 , using a browse as a field in a Netwebform and "Send new value to server".
That works as Bruce suggested recently and loads the ID into a field (Subject in this case).
How do I retrieve the mailto and mailfrom from the browse's file to use in the sendmail?

Thanks ,

Mike,

Have you used MSSQL with clarion at all?

I found this on the newsgroups and it works great.
http://www.dm8.fr/home_en.php Cost was like $ 106 US.
Try the demo , as I recall the demo is restricted to a small number of records. It made the process of converting very simple.

Stu,

You are correct. Drupal has a module that is a checklist of what can be done to maximize SEO and the related modules to use.

For those that are following this thread note that as of this date my new site is totally done with drupal , adding and configuring various modules and NO CODING  with PHP or CSS yet.

learn more about Drupal at: http://drupal.org/
check out the forum and the site showcase: http://drupal.org/forum/25

Thanks Stu for your input .

Stu,

Per your suggestions , I found where I could add contact info fields to the comment form and did so. Not pretty put it works.

Next up is all of the SEO stuff to get set correctly.

Thanks,

Gregg

Stu,

Thanks for the link. That's one of the few I hadn't messed with and I don't recall seeing it. Added it and changed things so that anonymous users can post comments.

Not enough hours in a day!

Thank you,

Stu,

Thanks. Regarding logging in before comment, I consciously set it that way for now. Frankly I don't know what is best. I'm perhaps being too careful. I've seen a few tech sites get spammed real bad and it makes a mess. What's your experience?

Still lot's to learn. Seems that the hardest part is customizing it to make it look like a normal site. A gallon of PHP and 2 gallons of CSS and stir for hours :D
