Text In The Menu Bar

Anyone know if it is possible to display some text in the empty space next to the last button in the menu bar?  :-\

Using the DoubleDrop Menu Type ......................

While I suspect it could be done, there's no template option to do it unfortunately.
It would take a very careful understanding of the html in the menu, almost certainly some css magic, and probably some JavaScript magic as well.
